Purpose & Scope
The Subsea Positioning Supervisor provides technical leadership and governance for subsea positioning to ensure positioning integrity and compliance with project requirements. The role sets standards and acceptance criteria, directs readiness and mobilization activities (equipment, software, calibrations, and supporting documentation), and serves as the primary SME for planning, risk management, and timely issue resolution. In addition, the role drives continuous improvement through coaching, audits/lessons learned, and input to tools, the technical roadmap, and vendor performance.
This role may include the management of survey team subcontractors or internal survey teams.
Key Competencies
- Education: Degree in Hydrography, Geomatics, Ocean/Marine Engineering, or related field
- Experience: At least 10 years in marine/subsea survey operations with USBL and INS (Inertial Navigation System) ROV positioning. Preferred focus on Geophysical Survey. 5+ years in leadership roles managing multiple teams or projects. Proficiency in multibeam systems, side-scan sonar, sub-bottom profilers, AUVs, ROVs, and subsea positioning/navigation systems.
- Soft skills: Self-directed and highly organized leader with strong team coordination skills and a process-oriented approach to planning, execution, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and governance of subsea positioning to ensure integrity, compliance, and fit-for-purpose delivery against project requirements.
- Establish positioning standards, procedures, and acceptance criteria, and provide technical direction to supervisors and field teams.
- Lead readiness and mobilization activities (equipment, software, calibrations, and supporting documentation) and approve positioning-related deliverables.
- Serve as the primary subject matter expert and point of contact for subsea positioning, supporting planning, risk management, and timely issue escalation and resolution.
- Drive continuous improvement through training and mentoring, audits and lessons learned, and input to the technical roadmap, tools, and vendor performance management.
